Maintenance and Sound adjustments
Does your instrument not quite sound right? Do you feel like it used to sound better -more resonant, clearer, with greater projection?
I often meet people who get frustrated with their instrument because it feels like much more effort to create the desired sound. Sometimes, they think their playing technique is at fault. But in most cases, this issue can be easily resolved.
It might be as simple as needing new strings. Other times, the soundpost inside the instrument may have shifted by just a millimeter, or the bridge could have moved or warped slightly.

Services I offer include:
One-on-one sound adjustment sessions in person, where we listen to the instrument and determine what it might need.
Maintenance and gereal set-up services such as cleaning instruments,
restringing,
bridge adjustments,
nut and saddle adjustments,
sound post adjustments,
servicing the pegs,
re-shooting the fingerboard,
and more.
In general, I can only provide an accurate quote after seeing and inspecting the instrument in person.
But if you would like an initial estimate before committing to a visit to the workshop, I always try to offer a quote based on photos or descriptions.
Repair and Restoration work
Please book an appointment to visit my workshop if you would like any repairs done on your instrument.
During your visit, we can inspect the instrument together and discuss the extent of the work you would like me to undertake.
It is very important to me to offer different options for various budgets while respecting the emotional value that many instruments carry.
While I can provide an initial quote, unforeseen issues may be discovered during the process that could increase the price. However, I always do my best to keep customers updated and assess different options if anything arises during the repair or restoration.
Commission an Instrument
If you are interested in commissioning an instrument, we can arrange an appointment to discuss various options, ideas, and preferences.
We can talk about different types of instruments, desired materials, special features, and any other requirements you have in mind.
I am always open to unusual and creative ideas, as long as I can realistically bring them to life.
I offer a variety of instruments for different styles, including classical, baroque, and folk music.
Each instrument is unique and built to meet the individual needs and preferences of musicians.
Pricing
Base prices
Violin: £5.000+
Viola: £7.000+
Cello: £14.000+
This is the starting price for a custom-made instrument. The total cost will change based on the type of wood, strings, fittings, and decorations chosen.
Add decorative carving or inlays

Head carvings: from £1300
Pegbox relief carvings: from £400,
or £20 an hour
Decorative purfling inlays: from £200,
or £20 per hour
The additional costs for decorative work will be added to the base price.
